From LinkedIN News:
Medical directors reviewing claims at Cigna allege that one metric is valued above all others: speed. A ProPublica investigation found that the health insurer tracked the performance of its physicians through what it calls a “productivity dashboard,” with one telling the news outlet that Cigna threatened to fire her for taking too much time to review denials. Cigna denies the allegations, noting that while the work is time-sensitive, reviews are expected to be “thorough, objective, independent and accurate." In 2022, Walgreens eliminated speed metrics from pharmacists' performance reviews after some said it could lead to dangerous mistakes.
The cynical take is that people can’t sue after their dead, so the faster you deny the claims, the faster you eliminate liability.
