Amazon could soon be liable for third-party vendor products on its platform
Twisted bureaucratic logic will once again ruin the day
From LinkedIn News:
Amazon could soon be held responsible for products sold by outside vendors on its site, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources.
I wonder if this logic could somehow be applied to Big Tech and Section 230. Frankly, I disagree with the proposed rule, but if the federal government is going to engage in blatant stupidity, we can at least use it to our advantage.
I suspect not because the whole point of Section 230 is to protect providers that are merely serving content from the content and people who are using their services.
The other hot take here is that perhaps this is welcomed regulation by Amazon: Amazon has the cash to implement this “policy” whereas smaller companies won’t, thus increasing the moat around Amazon. Or perhaps the target is sites like Etsy and Ebay.
This is why government should be small and limited.
