From Yahoo.com: Oregon ends its 72-year ban on pumping your own gasoline.
The article does a fine job of covering the basic politics of the issue: the evil oil companies have colluded with the government to kill (what is now considered to be) unskilled jobs because the cost of dispensing gas is too high with unemployment too low in the Beaver State.
But what gets me is the image that Yahoo ran along with the article reproduced at the top of this post: why is it that “real men” pump their own gas?
I have a theory: real men pump something else other than gas. Fake men lack pumps. But this isn’t an article on transgenderism.
But the placard above begs the question: if there are “real men”, must there be fake men? What about women, children and minorities? Are they up to the task of pumping their own gas?
Why is it when men aren’t doing something that society wants, society taunts them with this bullshit “real men” moniker bullshit? Are women, children and minorities (the ones that are always hardest hit) non-existent or incapable of agency?
Real men will soon be pumping their own gas in the Beaver State, a delicious irony. Fake men, women, children and minorities will soon be relegated to public transport because they otherwise don’t exist.
